Im not sure if it is just a superstition of mine but, does throwing your minnows down your ice hole after you are done fishing, affect the fish for the next time you head out. Assuming you are in a permenant house, and returning to the same place? Any thoughts or answers?

Even when it WAS legal - No would be my answer.

It is a bad idea.  It can spread disease and invasive species.   Don't do it.

Besides, the minnows swim away and within a short time are dispersed so the fish wouldn't see them as a big attraction.

Sometimes reading into the regs before posting in an open forum that the CO's can read is the best idea.

You might be able to get away with one and half minnows at a time, but no more.... lol

I like to sacrifice larger shiners just for their scales.  Ill take my thumb nail and work em off in the hole and a big cloud of scales slowly make their way down.  Ive never been a fan of a pile of dead minnows under my hole.

I've seen people do it on LOW and claim that a minnow head here and there seemed to keep the fish around.

I've seen a video of a walleye bypassing a lively minnow and taking the Dead one on the bottom that was still hooked. I'll have to try this out some time.

Dead shiners are better bait on the Rainy River in the spring then live ones are!

i had half a dozen big suckers and 4 big decoys dead, i dropped them down the hole, started fishing with 2 rods in the portable and got 5 northerns and missed 4 within 2.5hours, northerns were 4-6.5lbs. missed a couple big ones on a decoy, i recently changed my gear so i dont set the hook and rip the minnow out of the fishes mouth, some big fish tho the bent the hell out of my extra heavy 34"rod

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
