Jan 15 Crappie Quest

  Plan was to fish crappies in the Cotton area.  We went light and planned to lake hop till we landed on some willing crappies.

For some reason we started out and on lake thats been good to us but in recent trips its been not so good.  After breaking through the creek a couple times with ATVs we got to the crappie hole.   Lets just say the effort to get in wasn't worth the effort but at least getting off was uneventful.   A quick trip to the next lake on the list.   I hadn't been to this lake for 30 years but remember it well for the small crappies.  Maybe we picked this one because we didn't need to unload the ATVs and drove the trucks onto the ice.  On the way out we passed a group of houses,  confused as to why they weren't in the deep hole we continued to follow the Navionics track.

 

 We were drilled and fishing in a mater of a few minutes and I had a crappie on the ice.   25' of water with crappies close to the bottom that would rise up a few feet and take my waxie.   It was a size I remember from over 30 years ago.

Small and I'm not going to apologize for not letting it go or the 9 other small crappies I kept, all out of the same hole.  It is what it is and if we wanted bigger crappies we were on the wrong lake.     Probably won't be back to this lake for some time again but you never know.

Sounds like a epic adventure with a well earned (and appears rather tasty) meal.

Nice work Frank. I look forward to the day that I can say that I am fishing a lake that I fished 30 years ago.

 They were delicious.   A little breading makes little Crappies go further.

Dredge in seasoned flour with salt, pepper, Parmesan cheese

Dip in egg.

Coat with Potatoes Buds.

Release them into oil. Pan or deep fry.

 

Hope to get out this weekend and get into some bigger crappies.
