Okay so I've been wanting to go on a fishing trip in Canada all year, and I'm starting to try and plan it. Me and 7 other of my HS senior buddies are wanting to do this. Me and 2 other pals are leaving for bootcamp for the marines this summer, I leave first week of July and am wanting to go on a vacation early June. I went with my grandparents 4 years ago to Canada for a fishing trip, that was a hell of a time. Looking to catch walleye,  a lot. I'm wanting to go somewhere in southern Manitoba preferably (I'm from southern mn.) Was looking at resorts on lake Winnipeg, a lot of them are super nice but way too expensive for some highschoooers. Looking to spend about $500 a person for a weeks stay ($500 just to pay for a resort.) I'm going to need a boat rental, I've got a 14' Aluminum but that isn't gonna do much haha. Could somebody that's been to a fishing resort in Canada help me out? Just looking for something cheap that we can stay in and has boat rentals. Doesn't matter how poopty the cabins are, as long as we have a place to sleep we're good lol. Anybody have some suggestions?

With the constraints provided - I suggest contacting the Westwood Motel in Ingance - Let them know what you are trying to accomplish and see if they have a solution.  Many years ago we stayed there and the manager there was very helpful with lakes to fish each day, directions, contacts, etc...  Also in Ingance is Vern's Minnows and they were very helpful as well.  Lots of lakes in the area.

Not southern Manitoba but northern Ontario.

Lac Seul Resort on Lost Lake near Hudson, ON is on the very southern end of the Lac Seul reservoir. It's about 5 hours drive from International Falls. They have boat rental available. We go up there in early June every year and do quite well. If we don't boat 75+ walleyes per day per person, we feel fishing is slow.

There's another resort about a mile away on an island. I don't recall the name of it even though we drive by it every day with our boats. I want to say it's Lost Island Resort but I'm not sure.

Two years ago there were seven of us and we fished 4-1/2 days. Used 161 dozen minnows and a pound of leeches. Bait will be one of your biggest expenses at about $4.75 CAD per dozen.

I order our bait from a shop in Dryden ahead of time. We bring our own boats and meals. Typical cost is about $575 per person including fuel from International Falls.

Another resort to the west of Dryden is Eagle Lake Island Lodge on Eagle Lake. I hear that lake is pretty good too. Well, I suspect just about any lake up there can be good.

Hollinshead resort, you will not have a better experience. It's about two hours north of Thunder Bay. It's around 120-130 a night. Includes your cabin,12ft boat and gas. Generous on his minnows when buying. Only down fall is you can only keep two under 18 inches. But it's also hard to catch under 18 inches. I caught 3 over 30 inches when I went. Buddy reeled in a 47.5 inch northern. Love the place.

Some of the places along highway 11 between fort francis and atikokan are in good areas.  Might be worth a call.

In late may early june I would much rather catch lakers than walleye.

Clearwater west, White Otter.    Many lakes in that area.

Check out Raven Lake in Ontario. I've seen their ad in Outdoor News saying $240/week per person. I've been meaning to check this out and see what it includes as far as accommodations, boats etc.

Jayden,

Hey I grew up in Austin!

I know of some great places to camp in Ontario if your interested. You would need to bring your own boat 16' would be fine, but it can be done super cheap! I normally camp with a good group of guys and it costs about $250 a week per person. That includes all gas and food for the trip!

So I've been up there once (last Aug) and we camped at Abram's Lake Lodge and it was nice.  We then trailered to the landing on Deception Bay on Lac Seul (not to far away).  I'm planning to do this again in late June and then maybe another trip after that later in the summer.  As I understand it, there is no camping on the islands in Lac Seul, correct?  The reason I ask is that I did see so folks camping on an island when we were there last time, but maybe they owned it??  Not sure..  How do the house boats get by with letting people camp on the lake?  If a guy had a cuddy boat could he stay in it on the water?  Not sure where to find these rules I guess.  Certainly love the area and it's worth the 8-9 hour drive for the fishing and the extreme peace and beauty.

Canadians are allowed to camp on "crown land" around lac seul.   Us Americans, not.   True of many areas in Ontario, presumably to help the resorts.

If you are outfitted by Canadian resort then probably ok.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
