Has anyone popped for $6.00 to try the "mummified wax worms" I saw up in Scheel's the other day. They look nice, nice colors, nice packaging, and I think they came from France.?? I could be convinced, but someone else has to go first.

On a serious note I have never seen them

Yeah, I dropped $6 on a pack at a bait shop in Shakopee.  Don't judge me!

I was planning to take my some youngsters out for sunnies or perch and assumed they were plastics like Gulp or something. Thought it might save me some time baiting hooks if the bite was hot.

Didn't use them that day and never looked that closely at them. When I did I thought - geez these look real life-like for artificial - they almost appear to be moving. The word "mummified" was almost rubbed off on the plastic case so I didn't know what I had until I really looked close.

I will hopefully get out tomorrow, and if so, I'll give them a try and report back. I can't image they wouldn't work...after all, they caught me.

Getanet: Can't wait to hear how they work, or don't.

To your point, bait is designed to catch anglers most of the time, not fish.

Good Luck, report in

Well I can state unequivocally they don't work! But apparently neither do crappie minnows or live wax worms on the lake I fished near Deerwood. Helped my dad put his house out this weekend - we fished from about 2:30 to 6pm and didn't catch a fish.

The picture Jim posted above is the brand and packaging I bought - except it was a variety pack of colors. The mummified worms are a little tougher and not quite a "juicy" as a live wax worm.

Wish I had more to report guys. I would think if the fish are biting they would work - and might stay on a little longer than live wax worms. At the very least you wouldn't have to worry about them freezing, or finding a tin of dead ones in your coat pocket or truck a month after season.

I tried them last year for crappies cause thats all they had at the bait shop for worms. I didn't have much luck on them for they sure do look real.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
