Big Stone Lake

Well I've been wanting to make a trip out there from Saint Cloud and finally made it Friday morning. About a 2:20 minute drive, but the car was warm and coffee hot. 

  My goal was to see if there really are really nice perch out there. Yes the reports are true, and I kept perch between 10 and 12 inches with little sorting. Also had a couple nice crappie. 

  Although I found the bite was the best, I did end up catching them on the tiny sunfish jigs with euro larva. I caught only one on traditional, to me Buckshot with minnow head. 

  The ice was 16" Friday and I fished in 14 feet of water most of the day. At Artie's Bait shop I was told they were biting on small minnows and I did catch a couple on them, but in the area I was in I don't think they were moving a lot so I did and it seemed I would pick up 1 or two per hole then it would be dead. 

  Friday there was very little snow on the lake and I had no problem driving my mini van around. People had there big houses out pulled by big trucks. I would go back in a heart beat but not sure how good of a road there would be after a good snow. I accessed from a public access but I'm unaware if anyone plows a road I just went where Artie's Bait told me where to go.

Made it to Big Stone over the weekend, the weather was perfect on saturday mid teen with no wind.  Party of 5 brought picked up 40 some perch and a few crappies.  Fishing was good but we spent more time exploring, 13fow was key the perch would come in waves with some really nice fish.  Good luck!

Wow I was also out this weekend was very slow for us with only 4 fish caught all weekend for 4 guys I think I put over 4 miles on the truck searching
