What is your favorite ice fishing lure, the one that you can not go out on the ice without?  I am thinking of a lure that you use in the darker waters of southern Minnesota.

I tend to like buckshots and rattling flyers, but I always have a white demon with red stripes on my dead stick.  I am heading out fishing now, but will post a picture of the demon later.

I'll let you know when I find it. Probably the first thing I pull a walleye up with, but so far no luck.

My favorite one is the one that works that day, but I tend to use my jigging spoons first. Good luck out there.

For walleyes, it's a red macho minnow or small gold jigging rapala. For crappies a small green and gold jigging spoon with treble hook.

It seems like my go to right now is a Pink/White Buckshot.  Here are the demons that I normally use on my dead stick.

That demon is by far one of my favorites also. I use it on a dead stick almost every time I go out for crappies.

For jigging I like to go with a forage minnow silver and black. I like my jigs to move straight up and down, but if that doesn't work I'll try the slender spoons. Has anyone tried the new lindy Wally or perch talkers?

I spent the weekend on one of the big 6 walleye lakes and I might have to adjust my answer.  I was using a #5 UV Green Slab Rap and walleyes would hammer it.  Even though the bite was a little slow, I out fished the rest of my group and all of my fish were on that Slab Rap.

I can't wait to try it out on the area lakes.

I did however catch a nice Perch using the demon tipped with a depth finder.  Couldn't believe it, checking the depth and caught that fish bringing it back up.

I once pulled in a perch the same way. Setting the depth on a tipup and pulled in a dinky little perch.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
