What you guys wearing?  I used to wear some that had traction under the front of the boot but nothing on the heel. After slipping from the heel a couple times and hitting the ice hard one time 3 years ago, I decided I needed something better. Got the everyday use by DueNorth. Really like them.  They are made for regular shoes but I stretch them over my fishing boot. They also make an all purpose that is for boots but the everyday has worked dandy.  Pretty icy out today and these are a must for me these days.

I was out today, I've been using the yak trax Dimond grip this will be my 3rd year with them $40 but well worth it.

This is what I have been using for quite a few years and been working well for me. Maybe kinda loud on the ice.

interesting, I would think the front of my foot would slip but maybe they are tall enough to not lose contact with the ice.

I haven't because what I have does the job. I have thought about getting something that may not dig into the ice so much and this one has caught my eye. ICE ETREKKERS DIAMOND GRIP

might be nicer to walk in.

I have something similar but a different brand. They are the best I've found for walking because it is always biting into the ice when I'm walking. The only drawback is if you wear them all day I get a big of foot ache in the arch. I've had the toe type grippers and they were tough to walk and drag a sled.

the due norths that i wear are only about 15 bucks and dont bother my feet or legs.  i have a pair that i throw on tennis shoes also that I use when its wicked icy out.

The Yak trax Pro, on 3rd year now there spikeless but work great. I will buy a pair of the diamond grips some time soon. Great traction.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.
