OK, probably the most ignorant question this year, but.  Have a new Ice Castle.  How do you attach the MN Ice House License?  Yes, it can be screwed or wired, but do not want to punch holes in a new house.  My skid house is easy as it has siding and wood 2x2s and I just attached a piece of wood to outside and drilled into that.  But, don't want to just start drilling into shiny house.  I know, in 2 years I won't care.

Thanks for your patience.

I put the license in a clear plastic holder and tape inside the window by the door so readable from the exterior.

Not sure what is called but where I get my lic they have something that people use to atatach there lic to snowmobile it's clear and sticky and just put it in the window of fishhouse.

I believe that the law says that it must be attached to the out side of the house.? I use a piece of 6" X 6" X 1/8" plexiglass over the lic. and run a couple of self tapping screws through it into the door . It has lasted for years.

I tape mine to the inside of the window with packing tape, if the DNR wants them attached to the exterior they should rethink the flimsy paper tags and go back to the medallions. Never had a problem this way.

I tape mine to the window from the inside with strapping tape.

One thing to point out. If you plan to leave it for any length of time, don't face it into the sun. The ink on the tag will only last a few days in direct sunlight.

I have had a couple of agents say it's fine on the inside of the glass as long as you can clearly read it from outside.

I have mine on the inside of window. I used the blue painters tape so it won't leave all the tape marks. This is the third year for this one and still holding

I talk to the DNR one day on the ice as he was checking my license and he told as long as they can read the License it can be inside the house in the window.  So I use painters tape and taped it to the window.  He said that will work.

Isn't this a complete waste of money, time tape, stickers and confusion? We all put MN DNR NUmbers on our houses. Pull up the number and see the license? Or am I missing something.

And sorry to go off topic. I tape mine to the inside as well.

My guess is they want a hard copy so the information is right in front of them.  Tablets, phones, and data cost money and sometimes none of it works all day or in all locations.

The big problem with the hard copy that is either taped on the inside the window or put on the outside of the house is that a few days in the sun will soon make the printing unreadable!

The DNR needs to come up with a better ink or method for their tags. The old metal tag was their best design but I suppose that was too costly.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
