What are your favorite soft plastic baits for the ice season?

Any depth or time of year considerations?

Brands and style please, just started to make an effort to really use more plastic a few winters ago.

Thanks

I like minnow style baits like gulp or powerbait for aggressive walleyes, crappies, but especially for lake trout.

When youbare traveling long distance by  snowmobile or wheeler they are a lot less hastle than live bait.

Custom Jigs&Spins Ratso and/or Wedgee tails in glow, chartreuse, red and black. I use it the whole ice season for all panfish.

There are some good shares in this thread I started. I've really been trying to use more plastics this season, especially when the fish are active. I'm still not convinced that plastics are more effective when the fish are neutral or less-than-neutral. Still getting a lot of staredowns with plastics, but I see the successes that other members have with them, notably Eyeguy.

It's been years since I've bought waxes or spikes.  Although, on some slow days I wonder if I should have brought some.

I have lots of favorites.  Little Atom Nuggies, and Noodles.  Panfish Plastics Chiggers, chigger fry and ballzy.  J & S Custom Jigs Ice Mite and Gojo.

One of the effective plastics for me lately is the Berkley PowerBait 3/4" wishbone in white and black.  I have some additional colors coming in the mail but these have really well for me.

I think more then anything Jeff it's the scent. Bring a scissors and some of your favorite colored powerbait bass worms out next time; you're going to be surprised. The downfall to powerbait is its durability.

Northland Impulse has been my favorite, but have many others that get played everytime out.

Definitely could be Tom.  PowerBait and gulp in lots of shapes and sizes have worked over the years.

I just got done cutting up some more custom profiles and colors that have been getting smacked by some trophy crappie lately.

I've been having great luck with northland impulse mini smelt and gulps version of the same. Been out fishing live bait with them for crappies and gills

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
