Anyone been out of the Birch's landing by highbanks, curious on access and ice thickness for mid week fishing?

Thanks

Some Ice reports available thru Facebook/Highbanks. I've also heard you can call them but they're not open until 1/5/17

Haven't heard any reports yet either, I may have to cruise on over there today and take a look at the west side of the lake today.

Hey Jim - PM me or send me a message on Facebook and let me know what you find for ice. I think I will head over that way either Thursday or Saturday for some perch jerkin'.

Just got back from the west side of Winni and at the access that pops out by the river there was a sign that says "No Trucks" on it, but I did see tire tracks going out there, not sure if it was smaller SUV's or what. There was a half dozen trucks/trailers parked on shore that pulled there gear out with sleds and ATV's. I talked to a guy coming in, probably a resort worker since he didn't have any gear on him, he said that there was 12" all over out there consistently. Of course with any ice report, get more than one opinion lol.

I checked the landings at a couple smaller lakes around the area and found folks walking out or taking there sleds/atv's.

I did see some meathead that drove out on Pike Bay, he is parked out there now. I haven't heard any ice thickness reports from the bay but there was about a dozen shacks out there people pulled out there with their sleds.

Almost needed the extension on the augur, was right to the power head. No walleye but sent my buddy home with 10 bluegills. Could drive everywhere in 4 wheel drive just had to avoid the drifts

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.
