Hey there everybody I have permission to fish a small private pond that's supposedly has Bass crappies and sunnies  in it.   I went out there the other day and drilled a ton holes covering about 70% of the pond. I only marked fish in one location and caught about a dozen large mouth. My question is is how often in a small pond like that will crappies and Largemouth be in the same school. I'm guessing the pond is only about 3 acres. There are some parts of the pond that I didn't cover due to lack of time. But I did get most of the fish I saw on my Vexilar to bite. I was told second-hand that there's crappies in this Pond but I've never actually talked to anybody that's fished it.   just wondering what your thoughts would be in that situation. If there's copies in there I think they would be really good size due to the lack of fishing in the pond.

I catch large mouths when crappie fishing in the weeds

I guess crappies could be in the mix. You don't say how deep the pond is, or how much structure/ vegetation, but I think its important to bear in mind that like any body of water, there is only so much carrying capacity for various species, and total numbers of fish. Not sure a 3 acre pond would yield too much biomass overall.  If you find them, practice CPR, as you could quickly decimate any fish population that is there.

Good luck !

I have fished a very similar pond.  14ft deep less than 3 acres in size.  It only had northern and crappies it (that I ever seen anyhow).  We caught crappies up to 2 1/2lbs and northern a up to 13lbs in it.

Not once could we catch the crappies in the winter time, only the northern.  I have no idea why!  Open water we would catch both.
