Does anyone know if they sell those strikemaster augers they drill all the tourny holes with every year?? I did the tourny a couple years ago and I almost bought one, but didn't pull the trigger. Looking to buy one this year

Save your money and buy the new Ion, best auger I've ever used, never mess with gas and oil and gummed up carbs again.

Just got the ion x and have used it a couple times and i am impressed. The first time out i drilled prolly 15 holes and the second time about 30 holes and it works great just not quite as fast as my strike master. I would suggest getting the new ion x if you can find one.

ya they sell the augers that they drilled holes with for a discounted price every year. First come first serve when there gone there gone but they're around for quite a while. no need to stand in line and get there early for that.

I also have the new Ion X. I love it so far BUT there may be a flaw in the new design that allows more ice and slush under the blade in the casting. I noticed it for the first time the other day when it was windy and cold. It wouldnt drill holes and i noticed it. Had to stick my finger in there and try and scrape away much of the ice and snow twice. Was a pain in the butt and had to be careful not to ding the blades or cut myself. I've heard others complain about this with the new model. Never used or owned the original Ion but i heard the design on those is a little different and they didnt have this problem as much. And yes I always run my auger for a few seconds when I'm done drilling each hole as to try and prevent this and I dont leave the bottom lay in the snow and water to help it bulid up. I also made sure I ran it in reverse and forward for a couple seconds after each hole after the first time and i still had to scrape the second time. I think it may be a design flaw. I hope not cuz its alot of money and I love it so far other than that.

The electrics are truly awesome in general. Fast and quiet. However, if you want a pretty good deal on the tourney augers go to D Rock landscaping on Hwy 8. When I got mine, they were all out, but called the factory and got me a brand new one for the same price.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
