I'm heading out to Lac Qui Parle state park for the weekend on October 21st with my brother-in-law and neighbor for a little camping and fishing.  We've never been to the area before but figured it was a good opportunity to get out, have a good weekend, tell some lies, and maybe catch some fish.  I'm hoping with fall setting in and water temps dropping, the walleye and perch bite should be good.

Can anyone offer any tips or general depths/areas/features to check out for that time of year?  I'm certainly not looking for your honey holes or anything like that, just hoping for a couple tips for some first timers.   Willing to exchange bass information for Lake Minnetonka if you'd be so inclined, though taking my advice there is to be done at your own peril! ;)

I've been reading all I can and while fishing information for the area seems pretty light, it sounds like we'll be dodging BB's falling out of the sky!   We're also open to heading up to Big Stone to give that a try, or honestly to trying out other area lakes as well.

Would really appreciate any advice anyone can offer.  Feel free to PM if you'd rather.  Thanks a bunch!

You'll definitely be dodging BB's out there, it's a very popular and well known hunting spot. Can't offer much info outside of that but I am heading that way myself this weekend to be one of those slinging the BB's!

I believe the controlled hunting period starts October 20, which shuts down the lake to boat traffic below the Milan bridge.

pulling cranks or casting to rocky areas is what I would start with, if the sky is clear the moonlight bite should be good there, it's been excellent at other lakes in the region.
