Fall color should be at or near its peak on Saturday, Oct. 8, during the Otter Trotter, a 5K run and walk at Wild River State Park near Center City. This is the fifth annual 5K planned and coordinated by the Friends of Wild River State Park to benefit the park.
Registration is $20 through Oct. 1 and $25 after Oct. 1. The registration fee will include a T-shirt (while supplies last), with all proceeds going to the Friends of Wild River to help support park programs.

Registration forms can be downloaded at www.friendsofwildriver.org. They are also available at the park or by contacting Mike Dunker at 651-583-2125, ext. 227, or [email protected].

Race-day registration, and T-shirt and bib number pick-up for pre-registered participants, will take place from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at the picnic shelter. The run/walk starts at 10 a.m. It follows a scenic route on paved and unpaved trails to Nevers Dam (a man-made dike), along the west bank of the St. Croix River and beside native prairie before finishing along a wooded path where there are signs of the park’s logging history.

Awards will be given to the top finishers, and all participants under age 12 will receive a prize.

This event also provides an opportunity for anyone participating in the “125 miles by Bike, Boot or Boat” challenge to log 3.1 miles toward their cumulative total. Those who log 125 miles by the end of 2016 will earn a limited edition “finisher” sticker and can upload their photo to the online Finishers Gallery. The challenge is in conjunction with the 125th anniversary of Minnesota state parks and trails.

Wild River State Park is 15 miles east of North Branch and 12 miles north of Taylors Falls just off of Highway 95 near Almelund. A vehicle permit ($5/day or $25/year) is required to enter the park.

For more information, visit the Wild River State Park page or www.friendsofwildriver.org or contact the DNR Information Center at [email protected] or 888-646-6367 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
