Big Flatheads

One of the signs that the fall bite is beginning on the St. Croix R. is the BIG flatheads start hitting walleye rigs. It is always a wonderful treat and thrill for anglers to connect with these great fish. I am attaching a couple pics of the size that you can get. The old saying ” you never know what you’ll catch in the River.. ” is so true. Caught on Rapala Shad Raps – very fun. Not shown is My Uncle Kelly who also landed a 38.7# I netted and was the heaviest “Biggest Ugly Fish” entered in the Beanie River Rat Tourney last sat.

#1 Ed K. of River Falls with flathead. Him and Dave also caught two limits of eyes and saug dogs.
#2 Chip W. (right) St. Paul landed this one.

What was the final outcome on the River Rat contest?  Did not see many nets in the water. I do not like fishing when the moon is up in the morning.  Moons and balloons are both bad luck for me.

dtp,

Sorry a little late responding here.

I am attaching an image of the River Rat weights to answer your question - the bite was tough so not a lot of big bags or teams weighing in.

The three categories (left to right) Biggest walleye, Biggest stringer, Biggest Ugly fish.
