September Report

[Walleye #1]

Things are definitely in a fall transition right now on Leech Lake. With falling water temps, the walleyes have been in somewhat of a funk as they are awaiting more stable water temps and fall temperatures to move back into the shallows and begin their fall bite feed bag binge fest.  

 

The best walleye bite has been in either 10-14ft or 20-32ft of water pulling lindy rigs with chubs or working the reaction bite with jigging raps or snap jigging a jig and minnow.   Working the bars and points in Walker Bay has been ok, and on the Main Lake some of the windblown points and flats around Goose Island are showing a sporadic walleye bite depending on the day.

 

Some of the best fishing has been for perch.  Working 4-7ft of water along sand and weed flats has been best.  A 1/16thoz jig and a few scoops of shiners or fatheads have been the ticket for jumbos.  One thing is to think letting those 12+ inchers go to help the Leech Lake Jumbo population.  There are ALOT of 9-11"ers in the lake ready for the frying pan.
