A wide range of military benefits are available from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, with details available in a new, easy-to-use webpage at www.mndnr.gov/military.

“This is a great time of year for veterans and service members who hunt to explore the license benefits offered by the DNR,” said Steve Michaels, licensing program director. “The DNR appreciates and supports military service, and the new webpage includes a tool that allows users to quickly find what benefits may apply.”

There are outdoor recreation benefits that span the entire year, and with hunting seasons around the corner, timely examples include free deer and small game licenses available to some veterans and service members.

Several wildlife management areas are accessible by wheelchair. To search for these, visit www.mndnr.gov/wmas and click the “Wheelchair Accessible” box in the search tool.

Military benefits extend beyond hunting opportunities. Veterans and service members who are anglers can in some cases take fish without a license. Nonresident service members can buy resident licenses if they’re stationed in the state, and veterans with a 100 percent service-connected permanent disability can get a permanent angling license.

There are also benefits for a cross country ski passes, Minnesota state park vehicle permits, and subscriptions to the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer magazine.
