Minnesota residents who applied in the lottery to hunt prairie chickens and did not get picked to receive a permit can purchase one of four surplus prairie chicken licenses for permit area 813 starting at noon Monday, Sept. 12. The licenses will be issued on a first come, first served basis.

If these licenses remain unsold, Minnesota residents can apply for any unsold permits two days later, starting at noon Wednesday, Sept. 14.

The nine-day prairie chicken season begins on Saturday, Sept. 24, and is open to Minnesota residents only. A map showing the location of prairie chicken permit area 813 and other hunting information can be found at www.mndnr.gov/hunting/prairiechicken.
