West winds blew the warm water offshore,  the trout and salmon moved in, and so did we.

Odd year that you can target the top 20' layer at the end of August.  Just days before that target temps were still relatively shallow at 50".  We picked McQuade Safe Harbor and trolled between it and the pump house in 60-100 fow. That kept us in 54-58 degrees, the sounder constantly marked big hooks at 20' down.   Pink and Blue X raps and Husky Jerks with 1.5 oz lead worked so did 2 colors of lead core. Blue was the better color but that ended when we broke off on a fish that we couldn't slow down.  That put us at 5 for 6 for the day. 4 lake Trout and one nice Coho.   You should know that 3 mph is what you should be trolling at.    That was August 26 recipe, the wind will change that so be ready to change up.

Awesome report ST, I am hoping to soak the boat Wed and or Thurs when I am released from my weekly work detail. Might have to try my luck on the big lake.
