Boat had to go in to have the lower unit replaced. Now it started setting how much longer it will be until freeze up. Started pulling out gear, looking at it, and modifying some things i wanted too last year.

Anyone else have the hard water itch?

Ouch - does not sound good.

FWIW - Alamanac predictions for cold and snowy winter - hard to imagine at this time of year.

Yep kind of doing the same thing, started to do some small fix up work on fish house and looked up the long range forecast, and let's hope they are right with there early predictions..

I hear ya! Sometimes, when no one's looking, I set up my pop up, turn the vexilar on, and pretend like i'm out on the ice.  Maybe crack a few cold ones just to make it the most life like ;-)

I was doing some work in the garage with my brother this weekend and he commented on my old jiffy model 30 sitting by the door. He asked why I had such an old auger. so I told him I bet it would start first or 2nd pull and he didn't believe me. took him up on on a friendly wager and guess who won?

I love my model 30, i think to this day it is the best made, longest lasting powerhead on the market. If mine didnt start on the ice, i think i would just go home and not even bother fishing that day because it must of been a sign from the fish gods. I run a 10" bit on mine, trying to find a 8" bit also close by.

I finally got my boat back on Wednesday and dont work tomorrow or tuesday. With a month of not having the boat I am pretty sure i have the most thought modded portable known to man. I also rigged my 899 so I can have a big gps screen this year. I can use it with ram mount into a genz box. I installed a female cig plug into the box, bought a spare power cord and installed a male fused cig plug. this way i can run power from the genz box, truck, or 4 wheeler. I have ram ball mounted onto the 4 wheeler handle also

Any predictions for first ice?

If the current thirty to forty-five day weather forecasts are accurate, and I am sure they aren't, I'll be hitting the ice in south central Minnesota in the third week of December.
