2016 Deer Regs are out

I am a little suprised (Pleasantly) that the limits are still a bit on the conservative side yet again this year.

What are your thoughts of the regs and bag limits?

I'm pleased as well. I'm in zone 225 which I think should have gone from Intensive to Managed a few years ago instead of from Intensive to a one deer limit.

I hunt mostly in 222 and we went from being able to shoot 5 deer down to hunter's choice and now the last 2 years lottery!!  Now I don't see results of other hunter's in my zone but I can for certain say on the plot of land that I hunt that the numbers are the same they were 7 years ago.  We have seen about the same number of deer every year, just some years they are within shooting range and others they are not.  I set out a camera last year and I bet I had 12 different bucks walk by the camera and we only saw one all hunting season.  I know the deer are thick in the area so why we have to have a lottery when not 4 years ago it was shoot up to 5 is beyond me but something tells me there is more politics than science going into that decision.

I've seen an increase where I live (and hunt). I now have deer raiding my vegetable gardens on a regular basis, something that's never happened before as I'm surrounded by miles and miles of bean, clover and corn fields. I see them strolling around the neighborhood daily and because I leave for work a couple of hours before sun-up it's become almost a daily occurrence to slow down and tap the brakes when I spot them along the county roads while heading to the main highway. It'll be interesting to see what the regs are for this zone next year?
