I truly believe Navonics has created a great way for us users to help each other improve our lake maps. They have created a means to provide the most up-to-date lake contour maps over time. The app annual service cost is $9.99 for first year and $4.99 for renewal each year thereafter. Download the map from Google play for Android and App Store for ISO (Apple products). The May 10, 2016 App update release improved the GPS and Track refresh rate from an average of 20 seconds to less than 1 second along with a bunch of other improvements. If you haven’t already done so, update your app from the respective app store.
Along with the App Navonics provide their SonarChart feature which connects to quite a number of sonar units. I personally use the Vexilar T-Box SonarPhone. To use it, you need to turn on a share button in the app settings. Anytime you’re on the water with the sonar and app, the sonar reading is recorded to the GPS coordinates. Navonics than takes your Sonar Log and merges you data with others and create new contours. You periodically do a map update, which are updated daily by Navonics to create new new maps. Great way to help each other getting updated maps without much effort on our part. The following screen shots are an example of the map update.
Ottertail Lake 2/4/16 on the ice. The blue line is my route from a spot on a hump to the access.
Same hump June 6, 2016 recorded SonarChart.
Same spot with updated map I did on 7/10/2016. Note the new location of the saddle to the hump and change in the hump 12’ break area. Also note the location of the right marker pin
