I know most of you guys come to Vermilion for the Walleyes and even the Muskies which I totally understand.  However some of the best action on the lake can be found fishing for Bass of both species.  Right now the bass are waiting in line to hammer just about anything you throw at them. Anything from frogs and jigs for Largemouth to cranks and topwater for the Smallies.  Take the time to explore the possibilities for Bass when you come up to fish Vermilion.  It is truly one of the very best Bass destinations in Minnesota and fish in the seven pound range are not out of the question and guess what, hardly anybody really chases them.  So next time the waldos aren't  biting, try some Bass fishing, because they are always biting somewhere and you just might be surprised just how much fun it really is.

Good call.  I'll keep that in mind when I come up.

What if the Walleyes are always biting?! :).. You are right it is seriously under fished. I may even have a bass trip this year again?

Does anyone know if the bass have spawned yet?

Caught some that were empty and some that had eggs in them. Seemed to be the smaller 2# fish that had the eggs while the 18-19" fish were flat bellied. Fished last week if that helps any. Still a lot of bass in the shallows to be caught

On side note didn't clean any bass myself just going off of girth size dictating eggs

There's no shame in eating bass, any more so than there is in eating a walleye.

I love fishing bass on Vermilion. You don't need a 225hp motor to hop from spot to spot, because they are literally everywhere.

Eating fish is definitely a part of the experience however keep in mind that Walleyes grow to eating size in just a few years, whereas it takes a Smallmouth bass 10 years to grow to 15 or 16 inches.  There are Walleyes, Perch and other panfish as well as Pike that can be harvested for the pan and they all make much better table fare than either species of Bass.
