Well the winds blew and blew and blew some more on Leech Lake this past week and with that came some serious changes for the walleye bite.  The LLWT was another huge success, as a whole the numbers of fish caught were down do to the changing conditions on the lake, but as they say someone is always catching them somewhere and that statement held true.  Great job to everyone involved with planning and making it one of the best walleye tournaments in the Midwest.

The walleye bite has been very sporadic with some days a shallow bite in 4-7ft of water producing and others being deeper in 10-17ft of water.  A jig with a shiner is still producing at times, but as a whole leeches and crawlers seemed to produce more fish on lindy rigs, jigs, or even spinners.  Speed seems to be the name of the game.  Some days when rigging they want it .4-.6mph and other days you needed to move and move quickly to provoke a reaction bite whether you were rigging or jigging.

With the strong NW winds, the south end of the Main Lake has set up as well as did the Eastern Points and shorelines.  Walker Bay has a spotty bite on shoreline breaks, but anglers found good success at times catching some keeper fish in 12-20ft of water.

Best advice to give you right now is seek out areas that have not been pressured and try different baits and presentations.

Until next week!
