Here's one more update ... just finished a pair of these custom racks. Each holds 27 rods for a guy who builds custom ice rods and wanted a better way to display his work.

Let me know if you need a custom rack for your collection.

I just finished two more of these 10 rod racks ... one is spoken for but the other is available. If you were thinking of getting one, now would be a great time. I could stain it to your spec and put the final poly finish on it and ship it to you in a couple days. Let me know if you are interested.

I also build custom Ice rods. How much for a 27 rod rack in plain old pine. No staining etc.

Thanks so much for the rod rack Kevin. Everything I hoped and more.

If anyone needs a rod rack you can't beat these racks.

No corners cut on these builds.

Here is the 25 rod rack made for Northlander ... he filled it up quickly with some nice custom-built rods.

Thanks for that Kevin. That's just what I needed.

Folks I like it so much Im having Kevin make me a wall mount rod rack.

Like I said before these aren't cheaply made K mart stuff they are very well made with no cheap parts or corners cut.

Kevin I may have you make me a 25 rod rack for my open water customs. Well maybe just a 20 rod with a tad more spacing for them bigger rods and reels. Especially trolling rods.

Okay Northlander ... here is a sample of a rod rack I made for myself. I'm sure I could use a similar technique as used on your 25-rod rack to get more rods to fit. The open water rod rack pictured here uses 1 x 6 boards rather than the 1 x 4 used on ice rod racks.

Oh ya I like that!

Northlander - I am headed to buy some lumber needed for various projects tomorrow. Do you want me to go ahead and pick up what is needed to do a 20-rod open-water rod rack for you? I think we could probably do another swap as my open water rods are all getting kind of old and gnarly ... could use a couple new walleye rods! Let me know ... Thanks.

Im sure we can work something out.

Steve: Here is the wall rack I built for you ... 10 rods and made of pine. Looks pretty good from my perspective. I hope you agree.

Hopefully this is worth a walleye rod or two? I've already promised one (custom walleye ice rod) to my daughter to give to her boyfriend for his March birthday.

I plan to get that 20 open water rod rack going here soon.

Folks I love these rod racks. Very well built. As a custom rod maker having good rod storage is a necessity and these fit the bill at a good price.

Kevin that double sided one you made me for long rods is always full of custom rods. Thanks a lot.

Thanks Steve ... I appreciate the comments.

BTW, I have a 10 rod (full size) rack, oak, finished and ready for a new home if anybody is looking for one. $125, pick up in Grand Rapids. 1518100718_Rickysrack.thumb.jpg.3b37a923eb9697b8f3a7a2c3f33ec85c.jpg

Hello I believe I messaged you before.  I own Fox River Lures and Rods and need a 14 rod Ice rack.  7 per side.  unfinished just like this one you did.  I need it asap.  How much?  Can you make it in a way my retailers can assemble it easily rather than having it assembled ahead of time?  Then depending on price I will order more than would not be a rush..  Thank you Chuck DiVito.  [email protected]

Hi @yoppdk!

I was wondering if you still make and sell these racks?  I was hoping to get my husband one for Father’s Day if you do.  I really like the one you posted awhile back  (pictured below).icerodrack2.jpg

Just let me know.  Thanks!

Melissa

Yes, Melissa, I can still make those racks. One like this would take 3 or 4 days depending on if I have the wood on hand ... which I am not sure. Either way, we could certainly get it done and to you in time for Father's day. Cost would be $70 plus shipping if needed. You could also pick up in Grand Rapids, if desired. Let me know ... and thanks for looking and contacting me!

We’ve moved 3 times now.  We were too deep up in the bay according to what reports we’ve been seeing.  Plus this cold front has been a bit nasty.  Reports from people on Red were they got slower too with the front.   Pike and perch were fierce though.  Great spot to bring people that just want to catch fish.  But bring lots of minnows.  We had to go get more during our move to Highbanks yesterday.  I never did get to really explore the bay for the better panfish and pike spearing.  Too cold and windy to be casual about anything. we left there with a couple pike over 26 and some 10-12 inch perch.  The couple walleyes we got were 18.5 and 23.5.  I let the 23.5 go but maybe shouldn’t have?  It was the first one.  Protected slot is 18-23 out here.   Went to a proven spot out of Highbanks for last night.  Pike, perch and better walleyes.  Starting to get a decent bucket going with 17.75’s. Otherwise they’ve been in the slot.  They only bite when you’re about buck neked so only 1 pic that I’ll put here.  You’re welcome!

You would be remiss if you don't look at Vortex.  I bow hunt as well and I had a pair of Bushnell something or other and then upgraded to the Vortex.  Amazing how clear and lightweight they are.  I wear them on a bino harness and don't even know they are.  Mine were right around 200 bucks, but worth every penny.

Finally made it back up to Vermilion after 20 days off.  The ice out from McKinley Park was in very good condition.  I walked out 5/8 mile with my portable in the morning and I didn't find any water or slush on the ice.  I had 14 inches of ice with only the top 1 inch being white.  The ice was a little bumpy in spots and smooth and slick in others.  Snow cover was less than 50 % as shown in the pictures below, looking back at the landing and out from the bay.  Many full size pickups were driving all over and there were a lot of larger wheel houses out.  I hauled my small skid house out with my side-by-side in the afternoon and was very happy to be in it after dark when the wind really started to pick up.  Felt bad for the portables around me that were picking up in those conditions.  When I drove off just before 7pm, the drifts were getting much bigger and there was much more bare ice than earlier in the day.   Fishing was quite good in the morning.  Best bite was between 915 and 1045.  The walleyes preferred the smaller rainbows and chubs and wouldn't touch a very large rainbow and shiner that I tried for a while.  The walleyes were quite small with the biggest being only 14 inches.  I did manage to catch a 29 inch northern, my biggest pike in many years.   Good luck fishing, enjoy the lake, and please pick up your trash.

For sound to return doesn't it need like, well a chamber, hills, valleys. 🤔 The Internet?    Um, sorry there's no hot redheads on this site screaming out in the wilderness for you!!

I went one last time yesterday afternoon with a friend for a few hours.  We each got one, and we each missed one.  Raised about 20 birds at four spots, plus one deer.  Unfortunately, the season is now over.   It was a superb season though.  Second best season I've had with this dog.  She just had her 13th season.  I hope she can do it again next year.   I'll be sorting my sock drawer now for a couple months...

He can have this one!  Haha!  We shoulda maybe stayed on top in 14 but we could see the bottom so clearly and it was shallower than we really wanted.  The quick deeper water check yielded perch and pike right away, so we moved.  Caught plenty before dark, now pretty quiet.   I have a hunch the bay WILL fish shallower than the main lake we’re used to.   16 inches of good ice out here.
