Anyone still going out here, from Hwy 55? How's the ice... was hoping to get out Saturday and try for some sunnies with the kids. Any info would be appreciated. I would take a 4 wheeler.

Not sure about Maple. I cant believe how few people are out fishing though. I have had some lakes virtually all to myself lately which is nice. Where the he!! is everyone too lazy to walk out or what......

Have to agree. Was out on cedar Island yesterday not a soul. Today I  hit Mary in Alex then hit Villard and ended on Fairy. Saw 3 other anglers all day. The fishing has been tough for sure this winter but fish can be had if you put forth the effort. Noticed the same scenario first ice very few once they could drive on it became a zoo. Granted I have a wheeler but when I didn't Id walk a long way to fish.

Exactly. I'm sure the fish don't mind how this winter has gone at all a nice break for them. It has been tough, I have had no problems finding them stacked up but getting them to bite has been another story. Maybe it will be a good spring.

How thick is the Ice on Maple?

How has the bite been on Maple?  I'm taking the kids out there this weekend, but I have never fished the lake before. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Just looking for panfish to keep the kids occupied/interested.

Has anyone been having much luck on Maple?  I was out there yesterday and I couldn't buy a bite. I was anywhere from 5' to 50'. This lake is a real head scratcher. I was out there last week as well and all I could find were small perch. I found a decent weed line, but still nothing. Any ideas, I'm not looking for specific spots just a general depth.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
