Im from down by St cloud and was wondering if anyone had fished the Duluth Harbor/St. Louis bay or superior bay at all yet on ice...a group of us are debating where to go next weekend and someone tossed out that idea. Mostly looking for ice conditions or if people have been doing decent fishing there. I have no propblem drilling a million holes to find fish. Just want to know if it could be worth the drive up. Thanks!

Sounds like there's a good amount of ice, my buddy was saying he saw cars out there today (I definitely wouldn't do that ha) I think he said he had 9" where he was...just watch for cracks opening up. ...I'm going to try it in the morning for the first time this year....

I have seen 8 to 13" of ice. Fishing has been OK but not great. Don't drive a vehicle out there! Plenty of fish in walkable distance

Looking to go up there sometime in February for coho through the ice, anyone catching them now you know?

That's on lake superior not the harbor...I don't think we'll be fishing on the big lake this year, out of Duluth anyway

Anyone here about a water rescue on the bay last night? Supposedly a guy got a DWI and had to be rescued when his truck broke through the ice?

The Harbor die down this time of year?  Is it worth it for a guy to sit out there or would venturing to one of the lakes north of town be a better weekend option?  Read a few reports about crappies on the WI side but that was about it.

Thank you

I'm still catching fish but I'm not fishing any areas I have seen fished.

Early am fish shallow, like under 6', mid day move out to deeper spots or channel edges n fish 12-23' and then about 4 pm be set up back on humps on the flats in around 7' of water.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
