I assume this would require me to obtain an off road permit or some kind of registration?

I don't think so. There's not even registration required on older atvs anymore.

I posted this in the wrong section.  But I'll just do it till somebody says otherwise.  An off-road permit is 38.50 for 3 years though.

Right. I don't think youll need one though. A mower doesn't fall under any class. Even our class 1 three wheelers have no registration. I think I've even seen ice fishing vehicles powered by your auger powerhead.

Problem is I'd have a snowblower on the front and not a mower deck attached.   So I'm not sure, the vehicle is a 1977

Dude, just do it. The Sheriff will be so dumbfounded he wouldn't know what to say. Then just say "me know understand"

Works for some folks! He may just let you off with a warning? ;)

You'll be good no matter what. Even with atvs, 25 yrs and older are no registration. They will never say anything.

I'm just too lazy to pull my super light house out there by hand.   I can even power all my led lights with the battery on the mower too.

Saw 3 guys pulling a flip out on little Green out of the Chisago City access using a older model lawn mower yesterday. Deck was removed from the lawn mower leaving only the tractor. Should be no problem in doing so even if deck or blower is still attached. I agree go until someone tells you its not OK. 3 of us hand pulled a hub and our gear out 3 to 4 hundred yards, kinda wished I thought of this lawn mower idea also. Great light weight unit for this limited ice we have.

Old tractors are still 800lbs plus for even the small ones.  Just a cheaper option than a 4 wheeler.
