I haven't even drilled a hole yet this year but I'm going into Christmas break with some serious fishing on the brain. All new lakes to me so I'll be looking for anyone to partner up and try our luck. I've been hearing mixed reports from area people, we have many fishable lakes IF you use caution. I've heard reports of anywhere from a trace of ice to 6", As we know though, this ice isn't the greatest due to the thaw and refreezing cycle we have gone through.

DIdn't do any fishing yet, did a little shoreline scouting yesterday and then ran out of time at the end of the day doing Christmas things so I didn't fish. I just walked out on Pike Bay about 125 yards from the northeast end. The ice was about 5" but it was still only 4' deep, someone else drilled holes out to that point and i was just walking out checking their holes. Not sure how much further it was to fishable depths, but I wasn't messing around since I was rolling solo so I just went back home.

Jim there's an inside turn just out from the old access on the NE side of Pike Bay.  Can be good especially early ice.  We'll with the distance you described from shore.

Is Pike bay the one with the wayside rest to the north of the T when you are coming in from Walker ?

Pike Bay is on the south side of hwy 2 just east if the wayside rest you referenced.

Hey Jim! I just moved my family to the Walker-Cass Lake area from Detroit Lakes and it's great to see a familiar poster. Great to see you posting and hope to run into you on the lake sometime. I took a drive tonight with the wife and kids trying to learn the area and did a little shoreline scouting of our own. Hit 13, Welsh, Faherty, Portage, Steamboat, Garfield, Kabekona, Benedict and Kab Bay - hard and soft houses all over and can't wait to join them tomorrow. Gone flip a coin, pick a lake and see what happens. Didn't mean to hijack the post...back to reports!

Nice! We will have to get out together sometime! I looked at all of those lakes on the Mn DNR lakefinder page! Let us know how you do
