The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments on an environmental assessment worksheet (EAW) prepared for the Camden State Park instructor’s cabin removal project southwest of Marshall in Lyon County.

The DNR is planning the demolition of a former swimming instructor’s cabin at the state park. The instructor’s cabin is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing building to the Camden State Park CCC/WPA/Rustic Style Historic District.

The building has been vacant since 1997 and sustained storm damage in 2009 and again in 2011.

The agency will take comments during a 30-day public review period from Dec. 21 to Jan. 20.

A copy of the EAW is available online on the environmental review page.
Under “Environmental Review,” select “Camden EAW” from the scroll-down list. A hard copy may be requested by calling 651-259-5157.

The EAW is available for public review at:

    • DNR Library, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul 55155-4025.
    • DNR Southern Region, 21371 State Highway 15 South, New Ulm, MN 56073.
    • Camden State Park, 1897 Camden Park Road, Lynd, MN  56157.
    • Central Library, Gov. Documents, 2nd Floor, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55401.

Marshall-Lyon County Library, 201 C Street, Marshall, MN 56258.

The EAW notice was published in the Dec. 21 EQB Monitor. Written comments must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wed., Jan. 20, to the attention of Ronald Wieland, EAW project manager, Environmental Policy and Review Unit, Ecological and Water Resources Division, DNR, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55155-4025.

Electronic or email comments may be sent to [email protected] with “Camden EAW” in the subject line. If submitting comments electronically, include name and mailing address. Written comments may also be submitted by fax to 651-296-1811.
