Is there any ice on the lakes around Aitkin? Have the ice fishing itch and was wondering if I should head up to the cabin or not.

I would not be heading out on the ice at this time. If you do try tie your self off and go with a buddy. Bring everything for safety and a extra set of dry clothing.

I would take it one step further and say unless you enjoy  " Polar Plunging " then I would just wait a couple more weeks until Ice safety is not an issue. LIVE TO FISH ANOTHER DAY MY FRIENDS !!!

At least wait till next weekend before thinking about going out on the ice. Temps. are forecasted to drop later this week.

I am not aware of any fishable ice in the Aitken lakes area. I was on Shakopee Sat. and it was pretty sketchy, then with the rains most of the day on Sunday, it could be deteriorated to the point of no return.  Be cautious. Falling temps toward the weekend could firm up a few shallow lakes like Knife, but it'll be a close call.

Dont know about Ripple, but we fished a lake nearby. 5-7 inches everywhere we went.

Walleyes were active in 19-22 fow. Caught 4 Friday evening and 2 Saturday evening. Most were on a jigging spoon tipped with a minnow head.
