Bemidji Early Ice Report

It's finally here and almost gone again!! Small shallow lakes and bays I have been finding 3-5" of solid ice but loosing ice as we speak. A lot of the bigger lakes are breaking back open each day with the warm temps and sleet we got the other day, but with that being said, if you can find safe ice the fish are HUNGRY!! Found crappies and gills roaming on flat with mixed in clumps of weeds 12-18ft using small clam tungsten jigs and plastics.

Made a trip to Red on Tuesday and found 4-6" inches of ice but I would expect that to be loosing ice this week as well. Fishing was okay, not the usually early season crazy bite. The water looked as though it had cleaned up a lot I saw about 3-4' clarity. The fish you marked though came and ate with an attitude!!

Once safe ice gets here I will have a house on Red Lake for rental, as well as day trips in portables on Red and the Bemidji Area for Walleyes and panfish give me a call!!
