Does anyone use an inverter to run the charger for the ion, and how big of one?

I have a 2000 Honda but it doesn't take much juice, you can do it with any size.

Because this is a fishing site and almost all fishing electronics run on 12 Volts and the inverters work very well.  Most A/C wall plugged chargers run on less than 1 amp A/C input. That said 1 amp at 120 V = 120 watts. I have 3 A/C ion chargers ranging from 15watt to 60watt input power of 120 volts. All of them will run on my 120VAC 140 watt inverter.

Most ion battery suppliers suggest not-to-exceed 500 milliwatts .5 watt to 1000 milliwatts 1.0 amp.

NEVER EXCEED 1000 milliwatts charging a 12 volt icon battery - it could explode. In other words do NOT connect the ion battery to a car/wheel house battery only use the recommended charger.

Inverters work very well if you have a 12v battery such as a car, truck, wheel house, etc. Cigarette lighter versions usually go to 140 watts AC output, more than enough power to run the charger. I have a 300 watt I use in my wheel house connected to my 12v battery terminals with alligator clips. They also use very little battery drain.

The 2000 Honda #HAWG mentioned is most likely a 2000 watt generator. Continuous watt output is usually18.5 watts of 120VAC on 2000 generators. They will definitely do the job along with running every A/C device you have with you. Only possible drawback is they sell for around $1000.00.

In a nut-shell, the answer is YES they do work.

so a 200 watt inverter should be good to go to plug in a charger with a deep cycle battery or plugged  into a  accessory  outlet on the truck.

200 will work just fine. One thing, not revommended to charge lon batt below 40 deg. Charge below freeze (32 deg) will distroy the battery. Does some kind of plating on the negative plate inside the batt

Sorry Sunnie, i thought you were asking about generators/inverters.

Have used as small as one of those 100 watt cigarette lighter inverters to charge an ion. When not lugging around the generator and can gans, will also use a 400 watt inverter with a deep cycle, that way can keep up with all the other "must haves".... like phone, tablet, lights, camera, flasher, computer......popcorn popper ;)
