My question is:

What's the benifits of having a short and long stem option. It seems the short stem is more common on reels than the other but I don't know.

That makes sense moose.I'll try both on the ice and see what happens.

First thing is to find some ice :)

Let me know when you find some ice thicker than what is in my drink.

This snow they are talking about could mess it up. Lets hope it stays south or drys up.

That's my main concern also. Three or four inches of heavy wet snow on what little ice we have is not good.

Jeremy put the short one on and try it in the house and then try the long one it easier to change it at home.

I looked at these Straight -Line setups when I replaced couple of rods earlier this year. Didn't quite understand the finite advantage to getting one over the open face model. Maybe you could clue me in to what I am missing.

I did use one of these in a vintage model, but it was some years ago. Didn't really like the cumbersome use when you grabbed the reel spool, for the drag effect, with you hand and hope it wasn't too big a fish else it would do some serious cutting of your hand when your adrenaline kicked in .

This prevents the jig from spinning around.
