Clam Drill Plate w/ Extension

Recommended Posts

Posted

I will be using the Clam Drill plate for the majority of this season. I purchased the 16" Extension as well. I'm a taller guy (6'2") and every time I see a tall guy using the Clam Drill Plate they have to hunch over quite a bit. The question I have is does anyone run theirs with the extension all the time (less hunching over)? Or should I just reserve that for when the ice gets thick?

That is a great question MN BassFisher. I thought about the same thing and I am going to up the extension on before I cut the first hole with it.

Use the extension all the time. Makes it more comfortable to drill!

I had to smile when I read this post. I'm. a short fat Irish Polack and had to cut 4 inches off my Nils.

I run my extension all season long. It won't hurt nothing to leave it on all the time. and if the ice gets really thick you can even double up the extensions if needed.

I like the extension being 6'1". Longest extension I could get for my vintage StrikeMaster is 13" as that was the total length of the hand auger shaft before the first bend. Pic shown with the 6" auger, also had to build the adapter to connect the auger to the Clam Drill Plate. Tested it about an hour ago, only had 1" of ice but it did work OK. Need to weld a center tapered drill spade to the bottom of the auger between the cutting blades to prevent the "walking" when starting the hole. (same as my Eskimo 10" auger). Sweet Auger.
