The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments on an environmental assessment worksheet (EAW) prepared for a proposal to improve management of surface waters near Goose Prairie Marsh in Clay County.

The Goose Prairie Marsh Enhancement Project would include installation of a water control structure, raising 115th Ave. N, realignment of County Ditch 18 from the marsh to the water control structure, and selective repair of County Ditch 18 downstream of the new control structure.

This is a joint project between the DNR and the Wild Rice Watershed District. The agency will take comments during a 30-day public review period Nov. 23 to Dec. 23. A copy of the EAW is available online on the environmental review page. Under “Environmental Review,” select “Goose Prairie Marsh EAW” from the scroll-down list. A hard copy may be requested by calling 651-259-5130. The document is available for public review at:

  • DNR Library, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul.
  • DNR Northwest Region, 2115 Birchmont Beach Road NE Bemidji, MN 56601-8669.
  • Minneapolis Central Library, Government Documents, 2nd Floor, 300 Nicollet Mall.
  • Fergus Falls Public Library, 205 E. Hampden Ave., Fergus Falls, MN 56537.

The EAW notice will be published in the Nov. 23 EQB Monitor. Written comments must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, to the attention of Caroline Magnuson, EAW project manager, Environmental Policy and Review Unit, Ecological and Water Resources Division, DNR, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55155-4025.

Electronic or e-mail comments may be sent to [email protected] with “Goose Prairie Marsh EAW” in the subject line. If submitting comments electronically, include name and mailing address. Written comments may also be sent by fax to 651-296-1811.
