We need the wind to calm down along with those colder temperatures and it should make ice fairly fast.

Last year I was ice fishing on Vermilion Nov., 22! We had 7" of ice in a few areas! Not going to happen this year! Lucky if we get out by early Dec.:(

Always fun to fantasies what the coming winter will be. I did look at 1997/1998 last equal El Nino, records show we had many record low temps, yet average was 23 deg above normal. Record low temps usually makes ice. Just hope the low records arrive befor Dec. They stated with warm temps we have more cloudy days. With good ice, cloudy days usually means good fishing. I guess we just need to wait and see when we can again punch holes is the ice.

The grass in my back yard is almost all white in East Bethel. Also, about 1/2" ice on a small pond/puddle, stepped on it, broke through - still can't quite walk on water. 19 deg. this coming Saturday in inviting.

Had a little crust of ice up on the shore where some water had splashed up but nothing on the lake itself. Need this wind to go away.

Shallow neighborhood retention pond center about 8' deep froze over. Had a good 3" of ice in 2' FOW. Coon lake bay visible out my front window also froze over. Center drops to 20 FOW. <20 Deg. does make ice.

Had 1/2 inch thick ice at the shore Saturday morning for about 100 yards out. Had to leave and didn't get home until after dark. Got up this morning and half the ice was gone. By late afternoon it was all gone. Wind and waves wiped it out.

Pike Bay on Vermilion froze over yesterday! Not very thick yet though.

Had 4 degrees Sunday morning!

It may not be long now before we have safe walking ice on a few shallow bays if the wind stays away!

@Cliff Wagenbach I bet some of the small lakes up there will be ready in little bit.

On my way to my internship this morning LIttle Rock Lake was mostly covered except a few spots where current is keeping it open. Like by highway 10

Anyone up in the Ottertail area see any of the smaller lakes iced over? I see last 9 days had most nights with temps in single digit to lower teens.
