With the warm fall and the forecast for a snowy warm winter it looks like a short ice fishing season.    Wheel houses might not see the ice much this winter.

Last year I started ice fishing 3 weeks from now.   It will probably be open water this year at the same time.

Hopefully I am wrong and it is a good season but it is not looking like it.

Plenty warm for this time of year still. I'm guessing mid-December before we get out on the ice.

Forecasts I have seen are talking warmer than average but low snow.

Less snow might make up for higher temps, allowing normal thickness of ice to form.

Less snow also makes for easier travel with wheeled vehicles.

I am cautiously optimistic.

It could make for a much nicer ice fishing season if that is the case.

There will be ice this winter and I will be on it! When they Forecast "No ice this winter" then I'll move to Canada! :D

That's what I am thinking. I live far enough north it is not really a question of if we will have ice. I only have an ATV, no sled. If we have a low snow year I am pretty stoked to check out some remote lakes I usually can't get to in the winter.

I am ready for the ice and am hoping end of November to be on the ice.

I will be surprised if I can get on the ice by December 10 looking at the long range forecast and the current water temps.
