Hey guys-

Heading up on Vermilion for the first time with my wife and son and wondering if I can get a little info on how well the reefs are marked on the east side from Ely island to the channel at Windy island and if there's any areas I need to avoid. I just downloaded the updates on my Navionics chips but just making sure there's no surprises out there not marked on the chips.

Thanks in advance- Morgan

Morgan,

All of the open water reefs are well marked. Be careful if you are traveling close to shore as some of those rocks are not always marked.

All of the markers will be pulled sometime in October!

Also the markers can be placed a little off so keep a decent distance.

Water levels are also low right now so it's extra important to stay clear of shore lines, points, and marked hazards. There is typically a posting on here once the navigational and hazard buoys are pulled prior ice.

Thanks guys for the help

One more quick question. Where do they set out the whitefish and cisco nets in the fall? I assume they get set in the same areas each year

The nets are set in many different areas on the lake. Most are set close to rocky shorelines or shallow rocky reefs by islands.

Look for the white gallon marker jugs!!
