It's been a long time since I have posted anything fishing related, but I have finally been getting on the water again.

It seems that each time that I get a chance to fish now, I am able to land at least one eater walleye.  The trick for me has been a simple presentation.  I have been drifting over the dying weed beds with a gumball jig and a fat head.  Speed only seems to matter in the amount of time that you are in a viable area for finding fish.

Remember those masses of weeds you were fishing around the edges back in June?  Those are the areas you now want to target again.  Eight to ten feet of water.  Bright colors have been best, with orange being the color that got the most strikes recently.

Good luck and good fishing!

That's good to hear!  I haven't been out much at all lately but I hope to get out this weekend. Did you get a water temp when you were out?

Posted

I didn't note the water temp.  I am going to try and get out today and will check the temp.

The lake I was on today had a water temp between 60-63 degrees

I read 63 when I checked on Saturday.

I tried a couple different lakes over the weekend and found 63-65. No walleyes but I did find some crappies, pike, and sheephead.

I was getting 58-60 with small perch hitting everything I would put down to them.

Did okay on Tuesday, kept 3 eyes and released 3. Also got a few really nice perch! 10' of water before dark. The fall bite is good this year IMO

Is anyone having any luck recently?

I can count on 1 hand the number of keepers I've gotten in the last 2 weeks. :(

Plus the DNR is starting to pull in the piers.

I only managed 2 pike and lost something nice in deeper water when I was out on Wednesday . Water temp was 49-50

We had a good weekend fishing the windy side in the evenings. Caught several walleyes in 15-16' with perch and crappies a little shallower, maybe 12-14'. Almost everything on a jig and minnow. This next weekend looks nice then hopefully the cold white hammer drops again like last year and we get some good quick ice.
