Fished Upper Red Lake the afternoon of 9/11 and the morning and evening of 9/12. The first afternoon was a slow start pulling cranks in 6 fow on the north shore, I think we picked up 3 fish in a mile run (good size though). After giving up on the crank bite, we started fishing rock piles and found one with active fish. We put a good 15 fish in the boat in short order (all released) and headed in as it was getting pretty late. The next morning we pounded our way through the waves out to the same rock pile and the fish were still there and biting. We fished for about 2 hours and caught a solid 20 fish before the wind came up to much to be able to effectively fish the way they wanted it. Later evening, we went back out and picked a random spot on the north shore and pulled cranks for miles just exploring and put up my first zero ever on Red Lake but it's the only way a person will learn new territory.  The best presentation on the rock piles was pink and gold spinner with a half crawler or minnow, didnt seem to matter. The best crank bait when we found fish was a black/silver Wally Stinger. We tried jigging on the rocks and it produced nothing. I think you have to be moving and put the bait in front of lots of fish to get them to bite. It's been a wile since someone had posted here so hopefully this can help someone out if they are headed up that way. We will be back after em next week.
