So I have been looking at the Quantum synergy PT spinning reels for a while. Broke down and bought one. In the box there was a directional booklet on how to wind the line on.. There was an option for the line to be wound on with it becoming narrower toward the end of the spool, or for an option for it to become wider toward the end of the spool. i have to say it perplexed me. Is there a preference for either way?  Does it depend on if your casting or if your trolling or something like that?  I have just never seen this as an option before. There are little discs that you either add or subtract to make the line wind on one way or the other...

Last comment. This reel was around 140.00. I wasnt too impressed when I started to look at it closely. There appears to be many little parts on the reel that are made out of cheap looking plastic that appears like it wouldnt take much of a beating. At first glance the appearance looks pretty nice...but examined up close it doesnt look like a 140.00 reel. Anyone here have one?  Would love to hear the feedback on how its holding up or how you like it?

Thanks!

I am a big fan of Quantum stuff.  I tried to look for information on your reel and couldn't find anything on a synergy pt.  I know they have gone to some composite materials to lighten the reels.  Is this maybe what you're seeing?  Of all the Quantum reels I have purchased over the years, I have had only one that was less than  perfect.  The shaft that holds the spool does not stay straight.  Still I have had that reel for close to twenty years and still use it.  In fact, the only reels I own that are not Quantum are line counting reels, which they have not been into much.

Do you mean "Quantum energy PT" spinning reel?

I am not real familiar with the Synergy reel but all of my reels the past few years have been Quantum reels!

I fish every day and they have all held up very well for me and my clients. I probably have had at least a dozen of them and only a couple have failed. One broke the bail arm when it was dropped hard, (composite) .

Wind my line on them just like I would do on any other spinning reel.

Yes...meant quantum energy. I have never seen the little washer things that you either add or remove to have the line wind on one way or the other. Surprised no one has commneted on that part yet. There must be a reason why you would want it to spool on narrow toward the top verses wider...but there was nothing about that in the instructions. Weird. Good to hear they seem to hold up well. I guess the composite route is getting to be more and more popular. I imagine it reduces cost of production as well as makes the reel lighter.
