I asked this last year but cant find the thread. Anyway I am going to build a couple 8x18s this year. First (of many) question is what do you fish house builders use for screwing down treated plywood to the steel frame? It would need to be a self tapping that the treated plywood wont eat up over time. Also I would assume the same screw would be used to fasten the walls to the floor but longer to reach frame? Thank you for any suggestions. Also do you guys lay your flooring plywood 8ft across or 8ft length ways?

I built a 6x12 + V front on 11ga steel frame last summer. Used Stainless #10 self tapping screws. Only suggestion, pre-drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the drill portion of the screw. Hardened steel drill bits are much easier to drill than the self tapping screw. Will save you a bunch of time and frustration. I used the Philips round head.

Although  you have not asked yet, I would also build the floor with 1/2" ac2 treated plywood than sandwich a 3/4" pink poly between the 1/2" ac2 sheet and a 1/4" top sheet. Run the bottom sheet across and the top sheet length wise. Glue the poly to the plywood sheets with a good 3M spray glue. You would need 2" self tapping screws which run about $40.00/100 for stainless.

Not sure how your doing your walls, I built my wall/roof frame out of 2/3" cutting 2/6" in half. Than I bolted the wood frame to the floor through the steel frame with 6" 5/16 bolts.

I would use 3/4 treated for the floor and foam it when you do the walls and roof. Lot's of good flooring products out the besides treated also.

Also, get the screws with the wings on them for drilling the wood as they go in, no splitting. Fastenal is a good source for them. Then one screw can go thru the floor, the wall base, and into the frame at the same time. You still screw the floor down first.

Go to the search and look up build posts by Lip_Ripper Guy, he has some very good and detailed threads with lots of pictures. Most of his posts will be on the HSO side.
