I've seen this before, but never done it myself. I was rigging walleyes last week on Namakan and hooked a small one in 30 feet of water. As I was reeling it in, suddenly it started to fight harder. I wondered what was going on. It made a couple of runs and I loosened the drag a little. Finally got it close enough to see that a pike had the walleye crosswise in its mouth. I nursed it along through a couple more runs and got  the net and camera ready. I figured it was getting a little tired and decided it was now or never. I reeled it up quickly and slid the net under it. The pike was 27", I didn't measure the walleye. I released both, but the walleye was dead. Oh well, the gulls have to eat too.

A month ago I caught a 31" pike that had a 11-13 inch eye 1/2 swallowed. My hook was deeper in than the eye so I think I had him hooked before he grabbed the wally,I just cut the line.

This happens a lot during our June run to the Lac Seul in Ontario.

I recall one time when I was fishing with my brother-in-law and while bringing in a fish his rod suddenly got real heavy.  He managed to get it up close to the boat and I caught a glimpse of the tail half of what I thought was a wall hanger northern.  He immediately told me to "Get the net!"  His net was about 12" in diameter and maybe about as deep so I told him the fish was too big for his net and he would have to play it out and land it by hand.  It got up near the boat a second time and I got a much better look at it and realized it was a musky pushing 50" or more.  He repeated that I should get his net but I told him it would not be possible to net it using such a small net.  The third time it came up near the boat it was tired enough that it just laid up on the surface but before he could get it close enough to get hold of it, it opened its mouth and let go of the 15" walleye on his line.  He still hammers me about not getting the net although it never got close enough to the boat to net it even if we had a large enough net.

That same summer it was his 40th birthday so guess what he got for his birthday from me!  I told him to throw away that piece of junk he had.

Watching the BassMaster Elite event this past weekend on St. Clair, it kept happening where guys would catch Smallies out in 15-20fow and the Muskies would snatch them before they could get em in the boat. They'd fight the Muskie for a while and then the Smallie would eventually shake loose.

Great catch h8go4s. Terrible screen name though....!

I caught my first ever musky on White Bear Lake a few weeks ago after hooking a bass in less than 1ft of water. The bass hit my spinner, did one flop, and then a mass of water enveloped the lure. The musky had the bass on a belly bite and wasn't letting go. By the time I got my net out the bass was in the musky's belly and the hook now in the big girl's mouth. It was a 38" musky that broke my old net due to weight. The two-for-one was a first for me along with the musky.

What do I cherish such a great amount about looking for fall walleyes in the Brainerd region? Well it is simple...if there is a time where walleyes are predicable it is amid the fall months. It is one of the times where you can about dependably angle by memory and escape with it. With regards to angling, 10% of the water will hold 90% of the fish. This is particularly valid in the succumb to walleyes when they make the move to put on the food sack and school up. Every spot will have a decent, better and best area on it. An impeccable case of this is a spot that I have found on Gull. It is s vast zone that is around 300 yards in length. It is a sandy break that has a portion of the best cabbage on the lake. In that 300 yard stretch, you can get a fish anywhere in the range of 13-50 feet profound so there is an unlimited territory to cover on the off chance that you need to catch fish in the event that you simply need to angle. Brainerd angling report

What I can let you know by focusing on this area it has 4 "spots on the spot" that will way more fish than others and one "definite spot on the spot" that holds huge fish. I got my initial 10 pounder on the "accurate spot" 11 years back. After fifteen minutes I got my second. Since that superb day, endless 6-10 1/2 pound fish have fall off of that correct area. I am not saying that other enormous walleyes haven't been gotten in my pontoon outside of that "correct spot" at this area however what I am stating is the greatest fish DO focus on the best nourishing zones on any given spot. The components that make this spot the "accurate spot" involves 3 things. The principal is being an impeccable getaway course to truly profound bowl ranges so when they nourish, they drop off and process their sustenance. Number 2 is the truth the spot is hit by the transcendent wind of the fall which will push the nourishment on the bolstering rack. Number 3, the sand simply happens to swing to stones from the 11-17 foot go that holds the baitfish which thus holds the walleyes.

One of the greatest errors that I see individuals make with regards to fall walleyes is angling too profound. A larger part of the 6+ pound angle that have entered my pontoon have originate from under 20 feet of water with way more fish coming shallower than 15 feet. On the off chance that you are in the quest for your greatest fish, this is the ideal opportunity to not get modest. Spend the additional cash on the biggest red tails or river chubs you can get your hands on. This one stage will build your chances hugely. Try not to be reluctant to run with a #2 or bigger octopus snare. With minnows greater than 6 inches, I quite often utilize a #1/0.

Recently, I had the opportunity to get out in the pontoon with several great companions looking for some enormous fish. We did discover some okay ones yet no beasts. Our greatest fish of 25 inches fell off the "accurate spot" in 14 feet of water as I discussed previously. We got several other fish in the 21-23 inch range also. It was a decent day of investigating the spots I have Gull since I hadn't touched them at this fall. Brainerd Minnesota Fishing Report for Walleyes

Round Lake keeps on being hot for anglers. The fish are scattered in all profundities after the turn over and they ought to be by and by beginning to class up in masses. A huge amount of awesome estimated eaters are putting the food pack on. Rivulet chubs, red tails, brilliant shiners and rainbows are all getting fish.

Hubert is starting to warmth up and is on my hit list during the current week. Enormous fish have been moving out of the weeds and situating themselves in the 17-25 foot range. Be arranged to have a decent battle staring you in the face to catch fish under 20 inches!

The mid lake structures of North Long is likewise an incredible region for eaters. Jigging a plain 1/4 to 3/8 oz dance 20-30 feet of water is the ticket.

Foley's bar territory on Whitefish has been ablaze. 25-40 feet with the greatest chubs you can discover.

Huge numbers of the littler lakes in the Brainerd are additionally as yet creating. Make sure to watch out for our Brainerd Minnesota angling report every week for forward data. Obviously in the event that you have restricted time and need to build the chances of an extraordinary angling story don't hesitate to call us. Make certain to stay in the glow and solace of one of the Baxter and Brainerd Minnesota Hotels recorded on this site which give you speedy access to the greater part of the lakes specified and that's just the beginning.
