Hey I am going to be in the Duluth area without a boat Thursday through Sunday umpiring the Little League State Tournament.  I am planning on bringing up a little gear and wondering if there are any good places to fish from shore or a pier?  Really don't care what species, maybe some Bass or Northern.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, MikeG3boat

My opinion would be to go to Island Lake near Duluth.  Lot's of places to fish from shore.  The bridge is one area where lot's of folks fish.  There is a picnic ground just around the bend from the bridge.  Lot's of shoreline there.  From the picnic ground, facing the lake, go to the right on shore a bit.  Bring a chair.  I have fished there since I was a kid back in the 60's.  You could cast out a lindy rig with a floating jig head with a leech.  Or slip bobber with a leech.  More than likely you will catch more smallmouth than eye's there during the day but you will get a walleye or two there also since it's a stained lake and fish bite during the day.  Plus there are bathrooms near by and grills if you want to cook up some brats or something.  There is a bait shop off 4 on the way, [Charlstroms],  Good folks and good bait.  good luck.
