Hey fellow fishermen, so my cousin and I are heading up to Melgeorges on Elephant Lake tomorrow for the week, and was just wondering if any of you have fished it? From the sounds of it, it appears to be great for smallmouth but not to great for walleye. Have any of you had any success fishing for walleyes on it? Or would we better off heading to a different lake to target walleyes in the area? Any insight is greatly appreciated. We are from the Mankato area. Thanks for any info.

Geiber,

Our group has been going to Elephant Lake for the past 21 years, usually between late May to late June, and it definitely is a GOOD walleye lake. Some years are better then others but we generally do pretty well. We were up the third week of June this year and caught 4 walleye 24-25" and many in the 15"-20" and the week prior walleyes of 28, 29 & 30" were caught. So yes there are quality walleye in the lake as well as a healthy population of pike and small mouth. Just check the maps at the lodge and they will point to the walleye spots.

Good Luck.
