Sitting around the campfire the last night of fishing and the topic of speeds for spinners and crank baits came up.  Everyone had a different idea.  What speed do you guys find to be the most productive?

Thanks

Spinners .8-1.1

Cranks 2.0-2.6

Those are usually the ranges that produce the most for me.

Depends on the lure type and size, time of year, and species of fish among other things I'm sure.  About the only time I use crank baits these days is in late summer for walleyes.  In late July I'll use a #5 shad rap in about 10 feet of water and speed troll.  I don't know the speed exactly but I do leave a wake with my boat.  I'm guessing between 5 and 6 mph or maybe more.

Spinners   .75 -1.5

Cranks early season 2-2.3  later(July & on) 2-3

I think .5 to 1.5 with spinners depending on the blade size and fishing application.  I will troll spinners with large colorado blades and snap weights up to 2.5 mph on the great lakes.  Cranks again are variable from .75 to 3.5.  One of the best ways to work both rigs and cranks is to incorporate lazy s turns into the mix and see what the fish want.  S turns will speed up the outermost lines and nearly stall the inside lines.  If your inside lines are getting hit more then slow down, if the outside lines are getting hit more then try speeding up and if you find with the speed changes trolling straight that your not getting hit you will know that it is the increase and decrease in speed that is triggering fish so pumping the rods may elicit more strikes then setting them in a rod holder and waiting.
