River Crappie Fishing

Right before Fishing Opener I had the itch to get on the water so I dropped my kayak in the Backwaters and targeted Crappies. It took a bit to find them but when I did, the bite was on! Got into a mess of White Crappies with an awesome average of over 11". Smallest fish of the day was 10.5". Throw in a few bonus Walleye & a big Bass on the Ultralight and you have a day I won't soon forget!

Thanks for the video.  Looks like you had a good time.  I have thought about taking my canoe out on the Crow, Rum, or Mississippi river with my girlfriend for some fishing.  As much as I love fishing I only manage to get out a few times a year usually due to friends or family being busy when I have free time from work. 

 

How deep do you set your slip bobber when you are fishing for crappies in the river?  I never have good luck with them, the little ties that stop the bead always get waterlogged and then the knot loosens up.  A friend of mine showed me some metal ones that he was using on his line, but due to literally never catching a fish with a slip bobber (and with a jig already on my line...) i decided not to try it out.  Seems like most guys like slip bobbers for walleyes and crappies though.
