Fish Arches on Elite 7

Question

Posted

I got a Lowrance Elite-7 towards the end of last season. I didn't have much time to monkey with it but have started to this year. For some reason I really don't get fish arches on the screen. It mostly seems like clutter. I also can't really tell any difference between the sonar and downscan, except that they are different colors.

Any suggestions on things that I can do? I don't think that I've really played with many of the settings but was going to try going back to the factory settings just in case. Any other thoughts?

A few things to try, if there is a lot of clutter reduce the sensitivity that may help with identifying fish, also arches depend on transducer angle and speed. if going real slow you are not going to see real great arches they will be longer lines.  you should be able to pick out the fish on the downscan though, they will be little white dots, the bigger the dots the bigger the fish, also depending on your downscan image you may get more defined white outlines of fish.  Have you ever drove over a bigger blob on you 2d sonar in the middle of the water column (baitfish) on your downscan it should not look like a blob but little white dots being the bait fish. You really will have to play with it to get it dialed in.

Skunked,

I have an Elite-7 and run it in auto mode.  Works great for me.

The only manual adjustments that I make are in the ping speed, (medium range) and in the sensitivity, (also medium range).

Most fish will not show up as an arch! Fish are the dark red humps on the bottom! A bunch of fish will look like a dark red line if they are pegged to to bottom like walleyes usually are.

It takes a little use to be able to tell rocks from fish at times, but rocks usually are fuzzy and have pink & yellow tones along with the red.
