I'll be up on the Cook side of the lake in a couple of weeks and really haven't seen any reports on how its been on Wakemup, Norwegian or Wolf, Head of the Lakes bay.
I'm hoping its going to be as good as the lower part of the lake. Any reports would be appreciated.

If you are fishing walleye, it's a good place to get large ones.  If you want eaters, well not so much.

Although I haven't been out this year yet, but it's been that way for a number of years.

Yes walleye's is the target fish, were hoping for eaters

In the absence of other information, on general principles, go east.  The abundance of eater size walleye is much higher in E. Vermilion.

Agreed - it's been said by many on this forum over the years and confirmed by the DNR's surveys.

There is a lot of good fishing for northerns, bass, muskie, and panfish on the west end. You will still catch eaters on the west end but the action isn't as fast and you'll catch more slot walleye - which is a ton of fun when you haul in fighting 24" walleye.

As a resident of the far west, I wish they would go the Ontario route and allow one of any size, and the rest below 17 or 18 inches.  A 21 makes a nice dinner for two or three people.

Off topic, but I see Vermilionfox spreading some "likes" around but no posts. It's been a while. Are you making your annual pilgrimage up from Missouri?

  • 2 weeks later...

Just got back home this past Saturday skunked. It was a good trip overall. Stayed at Life Of Riley. Lots of slot walleyes, only two eaters. Bass were biting well, saw lots of small smallmouth so it looks like the recruitment is good. The weather was great! Seems like lately I have had very little time to post.

Looks like a largie to me.  But maybe it just thinks it is a largie and is really a smallie, or a largie that thinks it is a smallie...

Too confusing.

Definitely a largie! We were able to get into both, that's the joy of Vermilion!
